Animal Flower Exhibit

Biscayne Nature Center invites you to an opening reception and cocktails on Sunday July 18th  from 4-8PM. Morphologic Studios' will unveil Flower Animal. This exhibition displays a series of fluorescent portraits of zoanthids from our local coral reefs as shot by Morphologic co-founder and underwater photographer Colin Foord.

Zoanthids are photosynthetic cousins of sea anemones and corals that are found in an endless variety of fluorescent color combinations (aka morphs). Foord uses super-macro lenses and specialized filters to capture the fluorescent vibrancy of their living color in close detail.

The photos are face-mounted on clear acrylic and printed on metallic paper, further accentuating their luminosity. The opening reception will feature a looping video projection (and accompanying soundtrack) of zoanthids transitioning through their dormant and active photo-cycle.

The exhibit runs from July 18th to September 26th.

Biscayne Nature Center

Since 1971, located in the Bear Cut Preserve in Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center has been reaching thousands of children and adults each year with environmental education programs.

Nestled among the various ecosystems of dunes, mangroves, coastal hammocks and seagrass beds of Bear Cut, the Biscayne Nature Center provides an experience like no other. New facilities, exhibits and expanded tours encourage the citizens of Miami-Dade County to preserve the magnificent and imperiled ecosystems that make South Florida like no other place on earth.
